Our Philosophy

Children in the Rainbow School summer camp program are free to join any activities presented by the staff; they are not required to participate; only encouraged. We feel it is important to provide a non-competitive, but stimulating environment that will interest your child. Our philosophy is to allow each child to strive for independence, while developing responsible behavior and self-control. The staff provides support and guidance to assist your child's growing sense of judgment and responsibility. Rainbow School welcomes people of all races, colors, religion, national origin, ancestries.

Summer Camp

Join us for weeks of:
safe, secure, enriching summer fun!

The world around us:
the pre-k summer camp will explore our world this summer through the exploration of things beyond (space) & long ago (dinosaurs), things in the sky, on the land and in the water. This will evolve through arts & crafts, science, guest speakers, and with other creative endeavors.

Fairy tales-drama/storytelling:
The pre-k summer campers will be acting and dialoguing while performing for the pre-school and school-age summer camp children and staff.

The fairy tale showstoppers will be…
- the 3 bears
- the 3 billy goats gruff
- the 3 little pigs
- the gingerbread man
- caps for sale

SPECIAL EVENTS WILL BE…

- beach day
- a day at the park
- talent show
- family bbq
- fiesta celebration

Throughout pre-k summer camp there will be arts & crafts, indoor/outdoor games & activities, cooking & science projects.

Campers will be exploring nature through the study of plants & animals, the environment & ocean life and how to keep our beaches & community clean. There will be guest speakers from all of these areas and more.

Summer Camp


...1st Grade and up

June through august

A safe, secure, noncompetitive stimulating environment for children entering first grade and up

Program

Rainbow School Summer Camp is an all-day or half day camp for children entering 1st grade and up, starting June through August. Daily field trips and activities will vary from week to week and all trips and activities are designed to be age appropriate.

A two, three or five day schedule will be available during the summer. One-week sessions of camp are offered. Each session runs Monday through Friday.

Activities

A variety of age appropriate choices will be offered. Campers will be painting, drawing, learning crafts, making ceramics, building sculptures, weaving, sewing & cooking. They will be playing board games, outdoor games, and sports.

The campers may also be writing stories and poetry, reading & acting in plays, singing, dancing & playing musical instruments. They may choose nature studies, science experiments, chess, bowling and more.

There will be guest speakers from the Santa Barbara museum of natural history, the humane society, the sea center, the Santa Barbara museum of art, the botanical gardens, the fire department, the Audubon society & more.

List of Field Trips

Field trips will be offered daily. Our trips are selected for their natural, cultural, historical or recreational interest to the campers.

Field trips will include trips to local parks, beaches and more. The following is a partial list of the places the campers may visit:

The Railroad Museum, Stowe House, Santa Barbara Historical Museum, Museum of Natural History, the Court House, Museum of Art, Zoo, Botanical Gardens, El Presidio State Historical Park, Santa Barbara Mission, Nature Conservancy, Sea Center, Stearns Wharf, Goleta Pier, & Maritime Museum.

Snacks

A mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack will be served. Campers will need to bring a bag lunch and a beverage. (No lunch boxes or thermos bottles please.)

Clothing

For identification purposes, campers are REQUIRED to wear a Rainbow T-Shirt each day. T-Shirts are may be purchased at the school in a rainbow of colors.

Shoes or rubber soled sneakers are recommended. Thongs or sandals for beach trips only. Please label all your child's clothing.

Field Trips

Please provide your child with a labeled back pack and a labeled towel & swimsuit.
